Research: Devil

DEVIL

Devil release September 2010, is a supernatural thriller directed by John Eric Dowie. It has a very simple plot of 5 strangers trapped in a lift; after many strange and terrifying happenings they realise one of the people trapped inside is the devil in a human form.

The trailer contains all the typical thriller elements such as the tension and suspense which is done through the music which starts normal typical music but has creepiness about it, and becomes creepier as it goes along and you find out more information.

The way they edited the different clips together and use effects such as fades to black; an example of this is when they show the 5 characters that end up in the lift together they show the character in an average day-to-day situation and then fade to black then show another character, this shows they are going to be important. The end of the trailer is a lot quicker moving and is more action packed compared to the first half of the trailer where it shows more longer and tells the story more clips as well as having more speech in these clips; compared to the end where it is a lot quicker moving and no text just music. The scenes where the TV comes on and off you want to know how this is happening as the people in the scene look just as confused and shocked as the viewer feels.

The trailer also has a lot of text which starts to tell the story this makes you want to know what happens after the events you have seen in the clips. The text at the start of the trailer has a dragging effect and is on the city upside down which is all strange. You know this film has a scary element and of evil due to the writing having a black background and red writing when it shows the text towards the end.

The end section of the trailer also shows different characters in different situations this is another enigma they are using to make people want to watch. When they end the lift the 5 characters stand in a format and it is odd as how the girl who is standing in the middle happens to be the person who the action seems to evolve around.

Just after you see the first initial crash there is a black out with just speaking and you wonder what has happened and what will follow. Towards the end of the film the music changes and is a lot more tension building and the clips start being slower and the tension starts to build before speeding up.

As well as the above representing the genre and having the typical things we would expect in this type of film; these elements also attract the audience as they want the questions answered and what to know how it all occurred and what the out come is.
